What is an Alumni Forum?

Haas Leadership Forums are comprised of 8-12 alumni who meet monthly—currently online only—to gain perspective and insight on the challenging issues they face as business leaders. Forums are confidential settings where open discussion can lead to transformational professional and personal growth.

Our comprehensive services include:

  • Marketing and administrative support for launch of new Forums
  • Professional facilitation of initial one-day orientation session for each Forum
  • Professional facilitation of initial retreat during each new Forum’s first 6-12 months and annual retreat thereafter for each Forum
  • Annual training program and ongoing moderator support
  • Online Forum resource tools (sample agendas, exercises, ice breakers, norms, etc.)

Forum members are my trusted “consiglieri” in some of the most sensitive situations. When two factions on our board were at odds on an issue that could make or break the survival of the organization, I was responsible to mediate and find a solution. Tensions were running high, and no one was fully objective. Forum was a safe place that helped me tease out the real issues and prepare for the political navigation. The board found middle ground and our organization survived.

Kate Stillwell, MBA '07Founder & CEO Jumpstart Parametric Insurance

The forum is my first reconnection with Haas since graduating and has allowed me to establish new networks in my own local area. Preparing to present an issue to the Forum group has helped me better define the problem, including elucidating my own feelings about the situation. Tapping into the insights of Forum members and receiving such support on a monthly basis has sharpened my active listening skills, improved my presentation presence, and broadened my problem-solving abilities.

Olivia Bloom, BS '90VP/Controller at Geron

By sharing stories and ideas about personal challenges – caring for aging relatives, finding balance in personal relationships, getting involved with nonprofits – with people similarly situated in Silicon Valley, I’m more confident that the challenges I face are shared by others and are manageable. I do everything I can to protect the monthly forum meetings on my calendar.

Adam Tachner, MBA '08VP Corp Development/Chief Legal Office at Groq

Our approach incorporates the four defining principles ingrained at Haas.

STUDENTS ALWAYS

Forum is about continuous learning, working to develop oneself both professionally and personally.

CONFIDENCE WITHOUT ATTITUDE

Forum members are typically leaders of excellence with a humility that acknowledges their achievements without bravado. Forum conduct seeks trust and respect between its members.

QUESTION THE STATUS QUO

Forum is about seeking new ways to address a challenge – “bending the curve” through perspective sharing by fellow members and not relying on conventional approaches and solutions.

BEYOND YOURSELF

Forum brings together like-minded alumni who provide peer support and a desire to “give back” to fellow colleagues by sharing their life experiences and lessons learned.
