How does it work?

Designed to give

you a powerful,

transformative experience.

Forums are comprised of 8-12 alumni, carefully selected to bring a diversity of voices and experiences to the table.

1.

Understanding Goals

Haas Alumni Forums is dedicated to providing you the most valuable experience possible. To do that, we first meet with you to understand your goals and how the right Forum can help.

2.

Forum Placement

We carefully consider many factors, such as any potential conflicts of interest, role and vertical, and diversity of voices, views and experiences to provide you the most powerful experience possible.

3.

Meet and Greet

We'll make an introduction to the current members of the Forum, who will reach out to get acquainted online, or over coffee or lunch—however you're jointly most comfortable.

4.

Forum Integration

We only bill you when you've selected a Forum and begun meeting. We'll check in monthly to ensure the Forum is running smoothly.

Retreats

The Haas Alumni Forum program includes an annual Retreat for its members. The retreat is an organized one to two-day, off-site meeting that provides the group with the opportunity to rebuild, rejuvenate and grow. Past venues have included retreat/contemplative centers, hotels, and members’ meeting facilities.

Work and play are essential components of the Retreat along with shared meals and impromptu conversation. The Retreat allows members to take stock of Forum and evaluate the experience. Activities and exercises are also geared to identify new goals and areas of focus that can be incorporated into Forum meetings going forward.

Retreats provide an opportunity for self-discovery and to develop deeper relationships with fellow members, especially new ones. It is not at all unusual for new group members to feel some hesitancy before attending their first retreat. Seasoned groups, though, quickly realize the value of the retreat and look forward to the intensity of the experience.

FAQs

What value does the Forum provide?

The benefits of belonging to Forum can be tremendous. Belonging to a community of highly motivated peers encourages each member to aspire to an even higher level of achievement and professional performance. Members report a sense of community and connection that translates into increased well-being. There also has been demonstrated growth in professional leadership, greater success in negotiating strategies and increased effectiveness in communications with Forum participation.

How do I justify the cost?

The dollar cost for Haas Alumni Forum membership is a bargain compared to other Leadership forums on the market. These other programs are 3x to 10x the annual membership of Haas Alumni Forums. Forum is often a professional development expense if your organization supports these benefits. For busy leaders, cost is often less an issue than the time commitment required to receive value from Forum participation.

I already have a personal and professional network. Why should I join?

Personal and professional networks of colleagues are important to everyone in a leadership capacity. However, these networks are not setup as a place for you to articulate and achieve clarity on your personal and professional challenges. Forum provides that safe and respectful space where you can explore your unique situation at a whole life level. Forum also connects you to a set of cohorts who are committed to your personal and professional growth which is uniquely different from the relationships you have in your personal and professional networks.

Can I request the creation of a new Forum?

Haas Alumni Forums is always looking for opportunities to launch new Forums. The requirement is to find 7 to 8 others who are interested, committed and without any conflicts of interest. Haas Alumni Forums will support the launch with individual and group orientations and materials that provide the structure for Forum success.

Are the Forums monitored and supported?

Forum support is provided by Steve Terusaki, Forum organizer, in direct communication with each Forum moderator. Furthermore, all Haas Alumni Forums benefit from the contractual arrangement with Alumni Forum Resources that provides a consultative relationship with Bob Halperin and the Alumni Forum Services on-line resource library.

I'm really, really busy. Is now the time to join a Forum?

When you feel the pressure of demands that seem unforgiving, it is the perfect time to join Forum. Having the opportunity to step out of the everyday rat race to reflect and gain perspective on priorities in your life helps address how busy you really need to be; how else you might fulfill your obligations; and for how long must it last — the benefit of confidential discussions with your cohort members who are there to help you work through your current challenges.

How does this work in a post-pandemic world?

Forums have moved to meeting virtually with great success. As the threat of COVID dissipates, a return to in-person meetings on a limited basis has occurred. Efforts for a hybrid strategy that maximizes the in-person and on-line experience is still under discussion. A decision will result from a consensus within each Forum.
